      Major IRA Gift

Evelyn wanted to help The Savation Army. She decided to make a gift from her IRA.

TSA: Evelyn, why did you choose to use your IRA as a gift to The Salvation Army?

Evelyn: I have an IRA with a relatively modest amount that I invested in several years ago.  It is not a substantial portion of my retirement savings although I currently draw some annual income from that IRA.  So, I looked through my possible assets for a gift and it seemed like this was a good vehicle to use.  When I understood how easy it is to simply make The Salvation Army the beneficiary of my IRA, I talked with the Army's representative and then asked my investment broker to help me make it happen.

TSA: Why did you choose The Salvation Army for your gift?

Evelyn: The Salvation Army has been important to me and my family for all of my life.  My father spoke well of the Army; they help lots of people; and I trust the work of The Salvation Army.

The 2010 IRA charitable rollover passed the House and awaits Senate approval. It is not currently available. Because it is very likely to pass this year, we ask you to continue to plan for a potential IRA charitable rollover in the fall of 2010. To learn more click here.
