Al Hall came off a US Navy ship at a North African port during World War II. He was greeted by a Salvation Army officer with a bag of fruit, a carton of cigarettes, and a hand-made sweater-vest. He couldn't believe it but today he believes in the work of The Salvation Army
Question: Al, you invested in a charitable gift annuity with The Salvation Army in 2003. Has this been a good move for you?
Al: "Definitely! I was 77 at the time and the Army provided a rate for return of 7.6%. Almost 43% of my gift was immediately tax deductible and a portion of each payment is tax-free. Just last year, in 2007, 67.1% of what I received was tax-free. But the best part is that I was able to designate the remainder of my gift to the shelter program in Jefferson City. The folks there really need help."

Al: "Of course my World War II experience made a difference but since then I have worked with the Army as a volunteer. They can stretch a dollar farther than any organization I know and they help just about everyone that really needs it."
